SHORT SHARP MARKET ROUND UP...
We are right in the swing of winter now with some snow on the mountains and more to come. Schedules are a mixed bag this week for NI & SI, with Cows up 5 - 15 cents and lambs up 5 cents. No change to Steer & Bull. In the dairy scene we're seeing strong demand for QUALITY cattle, and very little for ordinary cattle. Quality Incalf cows can still achieve up to $1900, however most are sitting between $1200 - $1600. Same with Incalf heifers. Top end cattle making around $1600, but most trading between $1000 - $1300. 1yr dairy heifers are trading between $700 - $900 quality depending. No action on the live export front currently. Sneaky lift in the store cattle job this week. This comes with confidence in the beef schedules going foward, and some better weather conditions. R2 steers are trading around $3.10kgLW, with R2 Bulls trading around $2.90kgLW. R2 beef heifers are fetching around $2.80kgLW, and R1 Friesian bulls making around $3.50kgLW.
