SHORT SHARP MARKET ROUND UP..
Hopefully everyone is drying out over the weekend after this weeks big winter blast of weather for most of the country. Beef schedules are steady for NI Cow & SI Cow & Bull with NI Bull & Steer & SI Steer back 5 cents this week. NI lamb is $6.70 with SI lamb at $6.65.
On the dairy front, calving is now underway with the first Friesian bulls hitting the markets. Good demand for early bulls will hold prices up till early August, then as numbers flow we should see prices level out over August. We would expect good well marked bulls to be trading around $140 - $250 depending on age and weights. Beef calves are fetching $200 - $350 depending on quality and weight.
On the Beef & Sheep front, R2 steers are still trading around $3.00 - $3.20kgLW. R2 bulls are trading around $2.80 - $3.20kgLW depending on weights. Autumn born 100kg calves are in good demand, with Friesian bulls fetching around $600 - $650. W/H bulls are trading around $600 - $700, and W/H heifers around $550 - $600. Store lamb prices have eased with demand limited in some areas at present.
