Hi,
SHORT SHARP MARKET ROUND UP..
Some sun over the weekend is helping to dry things out. Lets hope we get a few more days like these as we head out of winter! Beef schedules are steady overall this week with NI & SI lamb also steady.
In the Dairy sector, a mix of good and bad news all in one week, with Fonterra lifting the payout to $6.75/MS for the new season 2017/18. In the south, a new cattle disease for NZ called Mycoplasma Bovis has been detected on a South Canterbury dairy farm. Lets hope MPI keep it contained to the one farm! Dairy livestock markets are quiet at present with calving now in full swing, plenty of calves are hitting a strong market for rearers. Fries bulls are fetching around $150 - $180 depending on quality. Beef x calves are selling well, with Bulls over $300, and Heifers over $200.
In the Beef & Sheep sector, R2 steers are trading around $3 - $3.20kgLW, with R2 Bulls trading around $3 - $3.20kgLW. R1 bulls are moving around $3.20 - $3.50kgLW depending on weights. Autumn Weaner bulls are in hot demand with most Fries bulls trading between $580 - $650, with WH bulls trading around $650 - $700 depending on weights & quality. Store lambs are fetching around $3 - $3.20kgLW.
