SHORT SHARP MARKET ROUND UP..
Lamb schedules are steady with NI at $7.10 and SI at $7.00. Beef schedules overall are up 5 -10 cents for both islands, except NI bull back 10 cents this week.
DAIRY HEIFER MARKETS: Currently there is a window of opportunity to purchase or sell 1 year heifers before the bulls go out. These can be a great trading option from now until 1st May. Tops - 100BW & well grown Fries & Fries x types are making up to $1250. Mediums - Fries & Fries x are making between $900-$1100, with the lower end heifers making between $700 - $900. There are numerous lines of yearlings being listed every week on MLR, so jump on and check them out.
SERVICE BULLS IN FULL SWING: Some farmers assuming it is best to act early to secure the top bulls. There seems to be plenty of Jersey 1 and 2 yr bulls on quote. Jersey 1 yr bulls ranging from $900 - $1200. Jersey 2 yr bulls ranging from $1300 - $1600. 2 yr Hereford bulls are selling quickly on the other hand, and the going rate is around $2300 - $2500 for anything of quality. The lease option is looking good this year, with some pressure on the long term bull schedule. Still plenty of service bulls for sale on MLR, so be sure to jump on for a squiz.
BEEF AND SHEEP: All store cattle are coming into hot demand, with some good grass growth and low stocking rates right across the board. 1 year 300kg bulls are trading between $3.10 -$3.30kgLW, 2 yr 400kg bulls are trading between $3.05 -$3.25kgLW. 400kg traditional steers are trading between $3.00 - $3.30kgLW, with 400kg traditional heifers making between $2.90 - $3.15kgLW.
