Looks like a wet and cold week ahead for most of us. Beef schedules have slightly eased again this week by 5 cents. NI lamb is up 10 cents to $7.20, with SI lamb steady at $7.05. The GDT auction was down again this week by 0.6%. Autumn calving is well underway now, with calves in very good demand. Friesian bulls are trading from $200 - $350 depending on quality, with Beef x bulls fetching $300 - $400 for good well marked calves. Lesser quality are around $150 - $200. Beef x heifers are trading around $150 - $250 depending on quality. There is good demand for good quality dairy herds and heifers at present. Run weaner sales are still seeing good demand for steers, with most fetching $4kgLW +. Lesser quality steers and heifers are proving a bit harder to move. There is good demand for Hereford weaner bulls suitable for the dairy industry, with most fetching $1000 - $1200. R2 Friesian bulls are trading around $2.70 - $2.80kgLW. R2 steers around 400kg are at $3 - $3.10kgLW. Store lambs are flowing in large numbers, with most fetching $3.30kgLW.
Have a great week from the MLR team.
