The weekend brought some much needed rain to most areas to help kick the grass and crops into gear! Beef schedules are steady overall this week. NI lamb is at $8.15, with SI lamb at $7.90. On the dairy front, milk production is peaking around the country, with most reporting a good season so far. If you still haven't sorted your herd bulls to finish off in November, then check out the drafting gate. Remember bulls are cheap compared to higher empty rates, so better to have more bulls than the minimal. On the beef & sheep front, store cattle markets overall are sticky, with 1yr bulls trading around $2.70 -$2.80kgLW, and R2 bulls at $2.60 - $2.80kgLW. 1yr Steers are around $3.40 - $3.60kgLW, with heifers fetching around $3 - $3.30kgLW. The 100kg Friesian bull market is hard work, with most trading around $520 - $540. Weather and the bull schedule outlook seem to be the main reasons for the lack of buyers at present. New season lambs are trading around $3.80 - $4kgLW. Ewes with LAF are fetching $90 - $110.
Have a great week from the MLR team.
