The Weekly Weigh In

My Loading Ramp Team

Its good to see more rain over the weekend, but not everyone is getting their share. Beef schedules are steady again this week. NI lamb is steady at $6.50, with SI lamb steady at $6.30.

On the dairy front, good news from Fonterra this week, around the change of dates for payments from next season. This will help with farmers cashflow going forward, and is another good step for Fonterra to improve their business for their farmer shareholders. 1st of May has come around quick, with heifers on the move to their new homes, and there are still good quality heifers available, so if you are still looking to buy then check out what we have on offer for immediate delivery.  Dairy herds are still selling, with prices easing now as 1st of June is fast approaching. Most herds or lines of cows are now fetching around $1100 - $1600, with Incalf heifers around $900 - $1300 depending on quality and sale conditions.

On the beef & sheep front, store cattle markets remain similar to last week. It's still a buyers market and until we get some decent rain, and the meat processors get on top of their back logs, I don't think this will change anytime soon. We have plenty of lines of beef cattle for sale, so check out the drafting gate if you are lucky enough to be able to buy at present!
