STRAIGHT FROM THE PADDOCK...

This weekend has seen warmer Spring like weather for most of the country helping with good grass growth for some areas. Some areas have gone from dry to too wet now, so some are still facing challenges at present. Beef schedules are steady overall this week. NI lamb is steady at $7.20, with SI lamb steady at $6.95

On the dairy front, the GDT auctions for July have shown great signs of what the season ahead could look like. I dont think it will be as bad as some say, and if anything, I think it will be stronger then last season, so time will tell how this season shapes up. Most areas are underway with calving now, and the feeder calf markets, as well as bobby markets are not great. There are a few factors all causing this, but at least calves are still moving and farmers can get on with making money from milk production! Friesian bull calves are ranging from $50 - $150 depending on age and quaity. Beef x calves are ranging from $100 - $200 depending on breeds and quality. Bobby Schedules this season are ranging from $1.00 - 1.80/kg in most cases, making calves worth around $15 - $40 this season.

On the beef & sheep front, store cattle markets remain hard enough, with limted buyers at present. Friesian R1 bulls are fetching $2.70 - $3, with R2 bulls around $2.70 - $3. R2 Steers are making $2.60 - $3kgLW, with heifers around $2.40 - $2.70kgLW. R1 Steers are fetching around $3 - $3.30kgLW, with heifers around $2.50 - $3kgLW. Store lambs are steady, with most making $3.30 - $3.80kgLW.
