MARKET ROUND UP FROM THE FIELD...
Another good week of warm weather to help keep the grass growing and a great start to calving!
DAIRY SECTOR
With calving now underway for some farmers, Friesian bulls are selling well this week at around $160 - $200. By mid to late July we would expect the market to be around $100 - $140 as large numbers hit the market. Beef calves are in hot demand with more expected to hit the ground this year due to less AI matings from last season. These calves will sell well for July/August, but by September/October we may see prices ease due to large numbers available.
BEEF & SHEEP SECTOR
R1 Friesian bulls are in good demand with most fetching around $3.40 - $3.50kgLW. R2 Bulls are also selling well at around $3kgLW. Store lambs have been in good demand this week with most fetching $2.60 - $2.80kgLW.
