MARKET ROUND UP FROM THE FIELD...
The down time is all but over for dairy farmers with calves starting to hit the ground. Reasonable wintry conditions around the country with some parts very wet while others are still very dry. All store markets are still very firm with a general shortage of beef and lamb hitting the market. Bobby calf schedules are being released and it looks like these are well down this year due to the low pelt price's.
DAIRY SECTOR
Some talks of live export at present, this is going to be an interesting topic going forward as dairy numbers throughout New Zealand are well below average. There is also some heat on good quality crossbred 1yr heifers with some traders speculating a strong 2017 incalf market. MLR has buyers looking for all classes of dairy livestock at present so if you have any surplus stock be sure to get them listed with us.
BEEF & SHEEP SECTOR
Our beef cattle listings are running out the gate with solid demand on 1yr beef steers and heifers, also good enquiry on R2 lines. We just need to get our head around cattle being over the $3/kg mark as almost anything of reasonable quality is making $3kgLW or more. Meat processors are still looking for cows, bulls and heifers and the schedules are firm this week.
