MARKET ROUND UP FROM THE FIELD...
A cold wet week for most with more of the same this week. Fonterra makes their announcement today to update the forecast payout for the 2016/2017 season. The current price is $4.25 so will be interesting to see if they can hold at that level given the state of the current world prices for product. Schedules are steady this week with little change.
With calving now well underway calves are still selling well with plenty of demand. Waikato and Taranaki will hit peak calving over the next week so we would expect prices to ease due to large numbers hitting the market. Beef calves are selling well with most well over $200. We have buyers looking for Inmilk cows and R1yr Fries & Fries x heifers so if you have surplus stock and need some extra cashflow then list them with MLR today!
BEEF & SHEEP SECTOR
Demand remains strong for store cattle with R2 steers and heifers fetching around $3kgLW. R2 Friesian bulls are selling around $3.10 - $3.20kgLW with R1 Friesian bulls around $3.50 - 3.60kgLW. Autumn Friesian weaner bulls are selling around $550 - $600. Store lambs are around $2.60 - $2.80kgLW this week.
