MARKET ROUND UP FROM THE FIELD...
A good week of fine weather for most in the middle of calving and lambing. Looks like the next few days will see some rain though. Schedules are steady this week, but most meat processors are keen to pull back prices as margins are not great at these levels.
A good week for dairy farmers with good signs of demand for products recovering from China, and the slowing of production from European countries. Our major banks are forecasting high $4 for ANZ with Westpac $5 and ASB at $6. Feeder calves are back this week with larger numbers available. Most Friesian bulls are fetching from $70 -$130, with W/H bulls trading at $200 - $250, and W/H heifers around $150.
BEEF & SHEEP SECTOR
Store cattle market is limited this week, with R2 steers and Heifers trading around $3kgLW. Friesian R1 bulls are fetching $3.50 - $3.60kgLW. R1 Steers are trading around $3.60 - $3.80kgLW with heifers at $3.20 - $3.50kgLW. The store lamb market has improved, with most trading at $2.60 - $2.80kgLW.
