THE SHORT SHARP MARKET ROUND UP...
Schedules are steady in the North with the South seeing around A 10 cent increase over some classes. MT cows are hitting the market as dairy farmers are in full swing with scanning. Rates are ranging from 5% to 15% with a lot around the 8% - 9% this season. Young Friesian & Fries x MT cows are in good demand, with most fetching around $850 - $950 depending on records. There is also good demand for MT heifers for fattening. The start of weaner sales in the North Island have seen prices strong on last season, with steers feteching around $700 - $900 and the top calves over the $1000 mark. Heifers are trading around $550 - $850 depending on breeds and weight. Store lambs are in good demand this week fetching around $2.70kgLW.
